Will Fostering Affect My Benefits?
One of the most common worries people have when thinking about fostering is whether it will affect their benefits. The good news is that in most cases, fostering will not reduce the benefits you receive.
Foster care payments are not counted as income for means-tested benefits such as Universal Credit, Income Support, Housing Benefit or Tax Credits. This means many foster carers are able to continue receiving these benefits while fostering.
Some benefits, including Carer’s Allowance, may have their own rules, so it is always best to look at your personal circumstances carefully. Every situation is different, and what applies to one person might not be the same for someone else.
At Progress, we make sure our foster carers are supported every step of the way. We can help you understand how fostering might affect your finances and guide you towards independent advice if needed. The aim is to give you clarity and confidence, so you can focus on what truly matters: creating a safe and nurturing home for a child.
