Fostering Coventry

There is a national outcry for Foster Carers. Each day, there are nearly 64,000 children living with around 55,000 foster families- that’s almost 80% of the UK children in care on any given day. Every year, tens of thousands of children across the country need Foster Carers while they can’t live with their own families.

There are already so many loving homes dedicated to providing a safe, secure place for vulnerable children to stay. Whether it’s overnight or for a number of years, Foster Carers can provide the support, stability, and care that every child needs to grow and develop into healthy adults. The sad reality, however, is that thousands of new foster carers are needed every year, and there are countless children desperate for help at this very moment.

Broken down regionally, there are 1000 foster families still needed in the West Midlands today. This covers Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull areas, along with our other areas we cover in the West Midlands. Perhaps you can help?

Progress is a small, family-owned agency that believes that every child deserves the opportunity to experience a loving home. Our main objective is to enable positive change for vulnerable children and young people. Those coming into our care have experienced adversity, and may also have a disability or additional needs.

Our team is dedicated to making sure that help isn’t just a dream, but a reality, for as many children in the Midlands area as possible. Even if they can’t be with their biological parents or families right now, we know that there are many carers out there that have more than enough love and support to share, and we are constantly on the look out for new prospective Foster Carers. Our goal is to match the children under our care with one of our generous, hard-working, truly incredible Foster Carers, and get them access to an alternative home where they can feel valued, respected and cared for when things get tough. By doing this we help young people become more resilient and independent as they get closer to adulthood; in the hope that, when they do move beyond us, they no longer need our support in order to live full, happy lives at the peak of their potential.

Fostering is generally for a limited period – whether it be for a week, a month, a year or maybe a bit more. In most cases, legally, the responsibility for the child or young person is shared between the birth parents and the social services involved- but the day-to-day guidance, love and support comes from the Foster Carers. With any luck, it is only a temporary measure, and the child will be able to return home at some point in the future.

Thinking of Fostering?

Firstly, thank you- you’ve taken the first step to transforming the life of a child. At Progress, we believe in a child-first approach; we aim to match children and young people with Foster Carersthat best suit their needs, and can offer that much-needed advice, support and care. You don’t have to be a parent already to know that when raising a child- even for a short amount of time- there is no one way to do it. Every child needs something different- and that’s why we welcome applicants from all walks of life, who reflect the diverse population in the Midlands.

To become a Foster Carer, it is only your ability to care for and nurture a child that really matters. We’re less concerned about your age, income or marital status- you can be single, married, or cohabiting. You also do not have to be a homeowner to qualify – you just need to be able to offer a safe, stable place for the child to turn to when they need it most. We would also love to hear from you if you are currently a Foster Carer and feel you need more support , or if you have experience working with children in a professional capacity. This just show us how serious, and capable you are!

Of course we don’t expect our foster families to do this alone. By becoming part of a passionate and committed close-knit team, our Foster Carers are provided with all the support they need- both from our dedicated Social Workers and Support Workers, and via access to the unique wrap-around services available from the Progress Hub.

Being a Foster Carer is a way of life, not a career. We know that it’s a huge decision, and we want to make the journey as straightforward as possible- for both you, and the child you decide to take in.

We only have one life, just like the children in our care. Make the most of yours, by providing the love and support these children need, to make the most of theirs.

We look forward to hearing from you when you feel ready to take the next step.
