At Progress, we are on a mission to make a real difference in the lives of young people. Our Managing Director, Claire Rogers, recently shared her insights on what makes someone a perfect fit for our team. If you are considering a career in social care and want to be part of a team that values connection, passion, and personal growth, read on.

Claire began by emphasising the importance of shared values. “Of course we want people that are experienced. Of course we want people that have done this work before,” she said. “But first and foremost, what we’re looking for are people who are aligned to our values. People that are coming into social care because they care, because they want to make a difference, because they are passionate about making a difference, because they can connect with young people.”

At Progress, the ability to connect with young people is paramount. Claire highlighted that beyond the paperwork and academic pressures, the real value lies in those who can build genuine connections. “People who actually want to play and are enjoying being here. We lose sometimes that connection to what we are doing because there is so much pressure over paperwork and academia. But actually, there’s nothing more valuable than somebody that can come in and can connect with young people, that can listen and take feedback, learn.”

We also believe in fostering an environment where learning from mistakes is encouraged. “One of the things we’re really proud of here at Progress is where we try not to be punitive. We accept and recognise that everyone’s human, people make mistakes. I think it’s important to recognise that, but as long as we learn from those mistakes, I think that’s what’s really important.”

Claire’s message is clear: Progress is looking for people from all walks of life. “We’re looking for all types of people. There is no age limitation, there is no age restrictions, there is no gender or race. At the end of the day, we’re all people needing support and we’re all there for the common goal, which is to make a difference to people’s lives.”
